I’am off to East Timor this week. We’ll be working at a bakery at a convent. We’ll be staying in the convent too: good fun. I will be travelling with my two baker friends, Ralph Plarre of Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse (http://www.fergusonplarre.com.au) and Graham Heaven of Heaven’s Bakery (http://www.heavensbakery.co.nz). This will be our third trip to East Timor.
The nuns have done a good job with the bakery. When we were there last January, they were talking about opening a retail shop in Dili. So
it will be interesting to see what has been happening. Last year they were just selling the bread from the bakehouse. They have lots of different customers coming in.
We got to produce some great bread and terrific product last year. We really enjoyed ourselves. Also last year, we did a trip up into the hills. We stayed in some great B&Bs up in the bush. This year we’ll be doing a couple of days out in the hinterlands. Not sure where, but I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun.
