My wife Christine and I went to see the movie “The Descendants” with George Clooney. We really enjoyed it, and there were a few good messages in it. The biggest one for me was that you’ve got to keep working on your marriage. Being happily married is one hell of a job. Lots of work. You’ve got to keep the romance alive. But the benefits are terrific. Christine and I have been happily married for 25 years. One day at a time; some days not as happy as others. But I have to say, I love being married.
The movie was based in Hawaii, which has some beautiful scenery. We did an eight-day cruise around the Hawaiian Islands a couple years
ago with three of our grown kids. The islands are beautiful: the views from the ship were what movies are made of.
When I look back at the special moments in my life that really stand out – such as the birth of our kids, our daughters’ weddings, our family holidays – that’s when I really appreciate being alive. Life’s great, wouldn’t you agree?
