I’m in Uganda at the moment, helping set up a bakery at Kumi with my two good baker mates Ralph Plarre and Graham Heaven. We’ve been busy getting the ingredients and getting the building sorted out. Nino, a church minister from Queensland, and his team, who got us involved in the first place and are here to help with the set up, are some of the most inspiring people I have ever met.
I’ve gotta tell you, I am not out to save the world. I’m just a baker. But being a baker has helped me, over the years, to help other people. We can all make a difference in this world if we choose. Just by giving a bit of ourselves: a kind word, a smile, just doing that little bit extra.
Setting up a bakery in Uganda has been a real challenge. But these people here have bigger challenges than I’ve ever faced. Let’s hope and pray we can get the bakery going. After all, that is why we’re here. We’ll make it happen – “Action” is the magic word.
